It is Ok, I really hate to say that. It feels as if (when that's said) it's the kiss of death. This is a creative story with strong female characters all of which are trying to thwart cataclysmic events perpetrated by a doomsday cult, which incidentally I believe is controlled by a woman. The primary characters are all well drawn bright intelligent and highly educated women, scientists, lawyers philanthropists etc. The secondary characters unfortunately aren't as well drawn. The action sequences are thought out and well described. As mentioned in other reviews there are a few writing, spelling and grammatical errors as well as the issue of a couple of chapters repeated. The telling point for me was that some things remained vague, like the above, where I mentioned, that I believed the cult leader was a woman, I really don't know. Unfortunately that wasn't the only anomaly. Consequently I found the story to be just Ok.

Perseid Peak Meteor Shower Series edition by Katherine Benner Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I felt like the story line had great potential. Who doesn't love an end of the "world" (or LA) story with a strong female lead and an evil bad guy? If I could get past the writing, which was borderline atrocious at times, the story was really interesting. But, unfortunately, it was hard to get past the forced conversations between friends and spouses, the grammatical and editorial mistakes and the three chapter epilogue that really didn't make sense as an epilogue. At one point two chapters completely repeated, which I hope was an formatting error because if the author's editor missed that big of a mistake he or she should probably look for a new career. Overall, I think it could have been a good story but there was too much going on, too much description in some areas and too little in others and the character relationships seemed forced at best. The story was set up for a sequel so I hope that the author and editor are able to do the sequel justice if they decide to go that route.
Edit I see that the blurb has been changed and while I think that was a good idea it is now fairly misleading unless the book has changed since I read it. "Hilarity ensues"? There was very little humor in this book. I assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that this was meant to be more of a dramatic thriller than light reading. Regardless, I missed the funny parts.
Great read for all. Looking forward to the series. Great book for you next vacation. Check it out and see for yourself.
I enjoyed this book because I really had absolutely no idea what to expect going in - a serial killer and a tsunami? How does that work? And it was fun! A nefarious "baddie' all the wile trying to save LA from a huge disaster, our three main experts are racing against the clock. Some good nail-biting action.
I'm giving it 2 stars b/c A) I have no right to be rating it anyhow and B) the author may have nothing to do with the rotten writing in the blurb! That said, I hate it when characters have a "crisis of conscious" - why don't they ever have a crisis of UNconscious? I suppose that would be a moral dilemma that occurs while you're asleep. I was also annoyed that the protagonist had been traumatized by her "parents murderers' " - this implies she had met them (seems unlikely, since she's alive), and that there was more than one murderer. Is this Macbeth? Title of the book is great, but author needs to fire the blurb-writer.
